Electricity is a flow of small particles called electrons, and it is these that make things work.

Electricity flows in a circuit. For each circuit in your house electricity starts at the consumer unit flows to the appliance down the live cable then returns to the consumer unit along the neutral cable. (a bit like a positive and negative on a battery)
